I wrote Bang Bang after spending time in Joshua Tree. The desert is so quiet it’s almost uncomfortable. When it’s that still, you can hear your own heartbeat. You can hear the things you’ve been avoiding. There’s nowhere to hide from it out there. This song came from that space. It’s about when a relationship crosses a point of no return. You know it’s over. You know it had to end. The decision is made. And then everything goes quiet. But your body doesn’t. Your heart is still pounding. The attachment doesn’t disappear just because you decided it should. The anger is still there. The longing is too. “Maybe I don’t want you around” starts to feel like both protection and confession. Bang Bang lives in that in-between space, when something has died but it’s still moving through you. The decision is final. The feeling isn’t. That’s where this song was born.
