Endless Summer Energy: The Story Behind Lemonade

by Ruby Mountain3 min read

Los Angeles has this way of bending time. Fall rolls in, the calendar says October, but the sun never really gets the memo. The pavement’s still glowing from the heat, music spilling out of cars, everyone outside like summer forgot to end. That’s where Lemonade came from.

How Lemonade Started

I started writing it just chillin’ in my Venus studio with the 3rd Eyes from Venus. We were jamming when I sang, “Sittin’ in sunshine with my Lemonade.” It was simple and flowed, and it held everything I was feeling. The warmth. The ease. The people. The LA air.

From there, the track started to take shape through performance. I began playing it live with the 3rd Eyes, building beats onstage, watching how people moved and reacted in real time. That feedback pushed me to keep evolving it. I added rap verses, blended more drum and bass with hip hop, and let it grow naturally until it became the version it is now.

Letting It Open Up

When I knew I wanted rap on it, I called my friend Ism from South Central. He’s a true wordsmith and someone who immediately understands my ideas and my otherworldly vibe. His presence helped lock in the atmosphere I was after.

Later, I worked with Jeff Jackson on the mix. He showed me and the 3rd Eyes new techniques that let the song breathe. Bigger drums, brighter vocals, more motion. That session is when Lemonade really came alive.

What This City Taught Me

But Lemonade isn’t just about the sound. It’s about what LA has taught me. This city is glam and raw at the same time. Rooftop parties and backyard jams. Block parties and underground shows. Luxury in the skyline, love in the neighborhoods. That duality is what makes LA so inspiring, and it’s what I poured into this song.

The Other Side of LA

I’ve also seen the harder side. When I first moved here, I met people who loved LA, people who were jaded, and people who felt stuck or bitter. There’s a lot of fronting here, and it can make you feel behind fast when money and fame are everywhere. I learned that a lot of bitterness comes from people who stopped sharing their work. That realization broke the illusion for me.

LA doesn’t have to be about chasing. When you open up to the magic of the land and the communities here, joy has a way of finding you.

Why I Made This

Lemonade isn’t just a song to me. It’s proof that joy still exists, and you can step into it when you want.

So when you hear it, I hope it feels warm. Like that endless LA sun. The pulse of the city, the love in the neighborhoods, the glow in the skyline, the energy of people creating their own lane. I hope you dance. I hope it reminds you there’s always a summer vibe here.
